Innovation is at the heart of Babolat’s string strategy and the RPM Blast Rough introduction does not deviate from this rule. This is the perfect example, with a unique structure that offers more spin with incomparable comfort.

RPM Blast Rough is the textured rougher version of RPM Blast, one of the most popular co-polyesters ever made. Like the standard RPM Blast, this string is a co-polymer monofilament with an octagonal shape for increased spin potential. It has a special cross linked silicone coating and also offers a unique sensation thanks to the High density co-polyester.

This strings high density co-polyester with octagonal profile and a cross-linked octagonal structure silicone coating delivers a fast, powerful string response with maximum top spin, a unique feel and powerful response.

This string is perfect for aggressive players who like to attack the ball with long, fast strokes. Our play testers found it a little softer and more powerful than the original RPM Blast, resulting in a slightly more penetrating shot. With its grippy surface, you'll find plenty of bite for bringing the ball down with spin. The durability is also very good, making this a great option for string breakers.

The string offers an exceptional combination of power, control and 'bite' on the ball for players who demand more control and incredible spin.

The RPM Blast Rough is a very popular choice among strong baseliners seeking durability and spin to dictate the action.

The Co-Polyester string construction delivers a unique great combination of power, control and durability.

RPM Blast Rough has a softer feel than the Pro-Hurricane Tour and RPM Blast original but also delivers more power. This is why this string is now one of our best selling Babolat tennis strings on the market today.

Packed with the latest technologies, this high-density co-polyester monofilament string offers a totally unique feel and a powerful, ultra-high-speed response.

The octagonal section and cross-linked silicone coating allow the strings to quickly return to their original positions and “bite” the ball better for maximum spin.

The RPM Blast Rough silicone coating is designed to allow the strings to slide across each other easier. This serves two purposes; the first is that the string can move easily, effectively allowing the string bed to play as a more open pattern than it is. The second, of course, is to enhance durability by lessening string to string friction.

The RPM Blast Rough stays with the octagonal profile but enhances the spin generation through the use of a new dye and coating.

The game of tennis has largely evolved in recent years, player expectations have also been transformed. With this evolution came the need to offer more flexible and, therefore, more powerful monofilament strings, bringing new benefits in terms of comfort and safe ball trajectory. In short, hit harder while keeping the ball in the court. At the centre of this challenge is spin with attack with power.

A lethal weapon on modern courts, spin, and its mastery, have become essential for anyone looking for performance, accuracy and the winning shot. Rafael Nadal has changed the game in this area. He proved that you could hit very hard with lots of spin while hitting an extremely vibrant and dynamic ball. He broke with the previous generation’s tradition of spin as a defensive manoeuvre, with impressive height over the net called parabolic trajectory. This was possible thanks to his technique and his Babolat RPM Blast string. His success at the highest level of competition has allowed the RPM Blast to win enthusiastic praise. It is undeniably the flagship of the Babolat synthetic tennis string range. However, Babolat had feedback from the players that led them to believe they could create a string optimised for spin, that was more accessible to players of a less elite technical level. Not everyone has the slap of Rafa Nadal! They immediately looked at the options for maximizing the snap back.

Snap Back? What’s this? In fact, what makes it possible to create ball spin is not the roughness of the string as is commonly believed. The quality of the spin is related to the movement of the strings during ball impact and especially after. The moment when they slide back in place is the key. The more fluidity, the more efficient the spin. This is what is known as the snap back. Of course, other criteria come into play such as the stringing pattern and the spacing between the strings also has a real influence. Nevertheless, it is the construction of the string that has the most important role. Once this definition is explained, it’s easier to understand the idea of developing an innovative string that promotes this movement. This has been Babolats guideline, their area of research and to find the secret to improving the snap back. They analised many string properties and especially their structures. Then Babolat started the industrial manufacturing process with the appropriate tests. They unanimously agreed on its name of RPM Blast Rough.

The first step was to create a depression in the string. Not to grip the ball as explained earlier, but to allow maximum slide and minimum friction between the strings at the time of ball impact. In addition to the material (co-polyester) created in Babolat’s French laboratory, the design of the string has been meticulously studied to favour slide thanks to an aerodynamic phenomenon. Some won’t believe them, but the brand logo is carved on the string. In fact, after thorough studies, it was found that this design really favoured the movement, that it was perfectly adapted to their approach.

Once the RPM Blast Rough prototype was ready, the manufacturing test adventure began. As usual it was the production lines in Corbas near Lyon, France, that were solicited and used since 1875. Made in France is not a myth. It’s a reality with all Babolat top strings, and also a pillar of their history. The RPM Blast Rough is no different. After testing, its technical specificities led to some modifications in the manufacturing process but the result soon aligned with their expectations. From the beginning of the idea to the finalisation with its specific packaging took them almost two years. Once the product was “finished,” it was necessary for it to be validated by the players. This was the famous test period of the RPM Blast Rough on courts all over the world. In fact over 20,000 demo test sets were distributed and play tested worldwide.

Babolat tennis strings are made from some of the most high quality materials around and are guaranteed to help improve your game play and to last for many matches and practice sessions.

Many of the strings that come from Babolat are made from materials that allow them to reduce the amount of notching that occurs in strings as they get worn and can also prevent the strings from breaking on you prematurely.

Babolat also makes strings for every playing style so that different players can find a string set that will enable them to build on their skill set and become more effective players.

Some strings will help a player increase the strength in their swing, while others will allow them to have more control. Strings that give you more control allow you to be more accurate and deliver the ball right where you want it to go. Not only is choosing the right string important, but making sure to use the right tension when putting the strings in is also important to getting the maximum playability out of the strings themselves.
